Welcome to this month's challenge. I have to say I am super pumped about this one. It is something that has tormented me for almost 20 years, and now I am determined to do something about it. What am I talking about?
Our new monthly challenge:
Summer time has a tendency to stir up thoughts of so many wonderful things. The beach, grilling out, family get togethers, ice cream, fresh fruit, pool parties. For me it also signals a time to get healthy. I'm not sure if those feelings stem from all the delicious treats at the farmer's market or the dread that comes with the thought of putting on a bathing suit after a winter of indulging in comfort foods. Nevertheless, when the warm weather rolls in I become bound and determined to get healthy, get active, and finally feel good about the way I feel about myself.
So this month I am calling on all you lovely mamas to join me in establishing some healthy habits. All in an effort to look good, feel good, and set a positive example for the ones I love most.
This month is going to be a little bit different than our previous challenges. For the first week, I am going to add a new healthy habit each day. Then for the remaining days, we are going to strive to practice all of the habits from the first week each day.
This challenge is not going to ensure that we live the rest of our lives healthy, and feeling good about ourselves. But it is a great start to developing new habits. I believe you can do pretty much anything for 30 days. Ultimately it is up to us to continue to love our selves enough to stay healthy.
Before starting the challenge, make sure to get your current weight. Not because I think we should fixate on dropping pounds, but because health experts say we should drink at least half our body weight in ounces of water every day.
If you are interested in tracking the changes in your body in a more measurable way, you could also record the starting measurements for your arms, chest, waist, hips, thighs, and calves. Just be sure to measure at the same place each time.
I strongly recommend not checking your weight and/or measurements more than once a week. As women, our body weight can fluctuate significantly from day to day as a result of our monthly cycle and fluctuation in hormones.
Something else you are going to want to get is a small notebook or journal so you can make notes about your day! It's great to be able to look back and review your week. You can also reflect back on your week if you had an amazing weigh in or if maybe you didn't. Plus it's great motivation to be able to look back and see how far you have come.
Most importantly, be kind to yourself. Staying positive is a big key to staying motivated and getting healthy.
Some side notes:
- If you fall off the wagon, because it happens, get back on the same day. It's much better to mess up on a meal than on an entire day.
- Make sure you schedule yourself a break day from exercise each week.
- Also, plan for a cheat meal once a week. You don't want to feel like you are depriving yourself of the things you love. If you don't love your new lifestyle, you won't stick with it. Period.
- Last, but certainly not least....give yourself grace. Real change comes when you love yourself enough to change. You are fabulous, and you can do this!
Now, let's do this mamas!
- Day 1: Prepare
- Day 2: Start logging your meals
- Day 3: Drink half your weight in water
- Day 4: Get active
- Day 5: 30 minutes self care
- Day 6: Avoid starches and sugars
- Day 7: Meditate/Visualize
- Remaining Days: Meet all of the 6 previous goals every day
